Poetry, Hip-Hop, and Global Revolutions (v1, i4)
“This issue is designed to ask ‘What would happen if the culture was allowed to be re-revolutionized, what would be the outcome?’ Well. . the outcome would be the unification of the global hip-hop community. A linking of the struggles of poor Black and Brown people in America with poor Black and Brown people all over the world. It is in this potential unity that the true power of hip-hop resides. It is the fear of this unity that has led corporations to “hijack” the most commercial element of this movement, MCing. The underground however, has stayed “truer” to community expectations, norms and values yet it has also been subject to many of the same forms of corporate manipulation, just not to the same degree.” - Mazi Mutafa, Executive Director
