Yishak Yohannes Yebio is an Eritrean writer and Youth Poet Laureate of Washington, D.C. He has served as an Arts and Social Justice Fellow at Strathmore and Woolly Mammoth Theatre and is a National YoungArts Winner with Distinction, Foyle Young Poet, Scholastic National Gold Medalist, Pushcart Prize nominee, Best of the Net nominee, Pulitzer Center Fighting Words winner, Words on Fire Champion, and recipient of the Penn Review Prize for Poetry. His work has also been recognized by Princeton University's Leonard L. Milberg ’53 Poetry Prize, the Poetry Society of New York, The New York Times, the Library of Congress, and the Kennedy Center. An alumnus of the Iowa Young Writers’ Workshop, the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop, Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth’s Fiction and Poetry program, and the mentorship programs of The Adroit Journal and Sunhouse, his poems appear or are forthcoming in The Penn Review, Chestnut Review, Diode Poetry Journal, The Shore, and elsewhere.
