Evelyn Lopez
In honor of my mother's memory, I am creating a scholarship in her name for a young Latina mother who is either a graduating senior, in college or trade school. This is not a GPA based scholarship. Each applicant is required to submit a 1,000 word essay about how being a mother has changed your life or aspirations and proof of enrollment. - Mazi Mutafa
Jasmine Coles
This year, we unexpectedly lost a dear friend and colleague, Ms. Jasmine Coles. Jasmine was with Words Beats and Life in the very beginning - serving as an Editor (Vol. 1, Iss. 2) and Assistant Managing of Editor (Vol. 1., Iss. 3) of the The Words Beats and Life Global Journal of Hip-Hop and even having her hand featured on the cover of the edition.Jasmine was a light to anyone who knew her or ever had the pleasure to meet her. She will truly be missed. We are creating $500 book scholarships to support students at The University of Maryland, Jasmine's alma mater. Please join us in honoring our friend by donating in support of the Jasmine Coles WBL Scholarship.
Brandon Berment
Brandon "B" Berment was born on November 8, 1981 in Brooklyn, New York and raised by his parents, Carl & Marjorie Berment. B was loved by so many and deserving of all that love. Brandon was the kind of man that was the life of the party, but also made sure his friends got home safe. For as hard as he worked, B knew how to enjoy his free time as well. Balance.
Brandon is deeply missed, but never forgotten. We celebrate his life each day by living ours to the fullest. B will always hold a special place in our hearts because he has touched each and every one of the lives he encountered along his path in a special way.
UMD Leaders of Color
As an alumni of the University of Maryland, and having been a student leader for 5 ½ years, I know how important and how difficult it is to balance classes and leadership. To that end I want to create four (4) scholarships for $500 to help students pay for books. This is not a GPA based scholarship. The selected leaders will be determined by a 1,000 word essay about what they have learned being a student leader that they believe will apply to the career they pursue and proof of enrollment.
