2022 Washington DC Youth Poet Laureate

Sarina Patel is a 19 year old writer and political organizer based in DC. She is a 2022 DC Youth Poet Laureate, 2x Scholastic Art & Writing National Medalist & 2021 YoungArts Winner in Writing. Her work is featured in BrownGirlMag, forthcoming in TeenVogue, and recognized by the New York Times’ Learning Network. In 2021, Sarina founded the creative community Novel Minority to stimulate BIPOC teens’ equity and solidarity in writing through free, teen-run programs centered on education, mentorship, & storytelling.. When not writing, she enjoys making music, crushing her friends at Mario Kart, and losing time at her local bookstore.
