Words Beats and Life Academy Returns This Winter With Updated Youth Programs

NON PROFIT RAISES $$6,292 TO SUPPORT DC’S NEXT GENERATION OF POETS

For nearly 20 years, WBL Inc. has worked to create resources for the city’s youth. Whether it’s a pair of headphones, a fully furnished studios, or a class dedicated to spoken word with guidance from master level artists, WBL supplies the youth with the tools they need to explore inward and blossom into productive members of society.

After raising $6,292 via grants and donations, WBL Academy is coming back this January with its phenomenal programing. Slots are already filling up, this winter, selected students will reap the benefits of working with acclaimed Street/Graffiti Artists, Spoken Word Poets and other professional creatives that will challenge them to dig deep and unearth new ways of expression using different methods that will help these aspiring youth to fine tune their craft.

Notable programs include, ‘Walk it Like I Talk it’, a chance for DC’s youth to tell the story of their city the way they see it. Using the murals of DC as their atlas, young people will create sharable content and lead group tours around different neighborhoods, while advocating for those communities that have been impacted by gentrification. ‘Like a Boss’, will set students up with industry professionals, who will act as mentors and bring out that inner Diddy energy, while inspiring them to take that entrepreneurial path and be their own boss.
