Beamlak is the 2026 Maryland State Youth Poet Laureate. Her work draws on Ethiopian history, family stories and experiences of displacement and belonging. She is the poetry editor of her school's literary magazine and participates in Montgomery County Sister Cities. She continues to develop her work through school and community-based programs. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, listening to Diana Ross and drinking earl grey tea.
