Hip-Hop Tea Party | Hands-on DJ & Graffiti Lessons
The Hip-Hop Tea Party is an event dedicated to exploring the worlds of music and tea in a fun and creative space.
This is a great way to explore the world and its many cultures through music making and tea. Come ready to learn across multiple senses!
What to Expect:
Participants will work with Master Teacher Nick Hernandez to remix and remake music from around the world - from countries where WBL has visited and worked like Brazil, South Korea, Senegal, South Africa, Uganda, Brussels, France, Morocco, China, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Pakistan and Ethiopia. The venue is in the multimedia learning lab of St Stephen’s Church in Columbia Heights, DC. The entire experience will be about two hours long.
This music-making experience will be accompanied by tea from the respective countries. Every participant will be able to capture footage of themselves making new music and enjoying the process of finding new music while tasting the flavors of new cultures. You’re also encouraged to bring music, in digital or physical form, so you may enjoy your favorites being remixed!
Guests ages ten and up can attend, up to six guests total. Parents can bring children under two years of age.
All participants must wear a protective face covering and practice social distancing. Proof of vaccination will also be required.
Your Impact:
By booking this experience, you will be directly supporting Words Beats and Life as we near our 20th year of operation. Words Beats and Life is a hip-hop non-profit that teaches and presents the core elements of hip-hop. For most of its history, it has taught young people, offering classes in graffiti, street art, and photography.
100% of what you pay goes directly to the non-profit organization. Airbnb isn’t charging any fees for these experiences. Learn more about the program. Your purchase will go directly to investing in the next generation of artists in D.C. and helps keep our arts programming free for D.C. youth.
Hear From Our Patrons:
“My partner and I had such a fun time! It was just the two of us in the class, and he knows a ton about hip hop while I know pretty much nothing about it. Neither of us knew anything about production going in, which was fine because we got a primer on it and then got to spend the rest of the time hands on making our own music! This class made production accessible for both of us, and has helped me listen to music in a new way. My partner ended up buying himself a sequencer on the way home because he liked the class so much.”
