For The Love Of U St
The U Street Black Arts Scholarship
Once known as Black Broadway, DC’s historic “U Street” has been recognized as the city’s Black Arts District for decades. In honor and recognition of the contributions of the creatives, activists and community leaders of the area - both past and present - we are creating the U Street Black Arts scholarship. The aim of this scholarship is to support individuals who are dedicated to keeping black arts alive in Washington, DC, despite its changing landscape.
We are offering two scholarships:
(1) One for high school graduates
&
(2) One for college graduates.
(1) Open to DC high school seniors pursuing post-secondary school education (college, trade-school, apprenticeship, etc.) in an art based discipline. Special consideration will be given to students who are working with communities of color through arts-based programming. (Duke Ellington students are not eligible for this opportunity.)
(2) Open to graduating college students who have not only displayed a proficiency in the craft but also a commitment to their community. Special consideration will be given to students who are working with communities of color through arts-based programming. (Only DC residents are eligible for this opportunity.)
