“Most of us have forgotten them. So many people have forgotten women’s contributions to the creation and preservation of the culture, WB&L Journal decided this issue to the theme, “Women in Hip-Hop”. Women have so thoroughly been erased from the history of hip-hop , the majority of people who submitted work for this issue focused all of their attention on women “in” rap music videos, as opposed to women creating hip-hop.” - Mazi Mutafa, Executive Director
