Our Connection to Universities

Words Beats and Life began at the University of Maryland, College Park, and because of the importance of transforming the educational experience of university students, WBL will always do workshops on college campuses.  We also understand how often university students are not connected with communities that surround their campuses, so developing innovative community service projects is central to our work.  Words Beats and Life is committed to developing the next generation and current generation of university students and leaders through our Journal, exhibitions and workshops.

Toastin and Rapping
MC Exhibition and Writers Workshop

“The Battle” is a central part of hip-hop culture and we strive to embrace it. “The Battle” is a forum for local, commercial and underground MCs to prove their skills in front of an audience that decides the winner. In planning this event, WBL will initiate a call for MCs on and around your campus to showcase local talent and bring in 6-8 MCs to showcase specific forms of rap music.

a. MC Exhibition: This is a showcase of WBL and campus/community MCs. A WBL host and DJ services are both components of the event.
b. Writers Workshop: The event includes a writers’ workshop prior to the MC showcase. This combination is ideal to connect to existing creative writing courses on your campus. A WBL host and the services of a DJ are both components of the event.
